The Scoliosis Book Club

Insightful, informative, easy-to-read, (dare I say) fun books about scoliosis are missing.

Where are they?!

It would appear they’re still sitting in our hearts and minds.

The number of people who have gone through any degree of the scoliosis saga and have told me, “I’m going to write a book about my journey.” or “I have an idea for a novel about a scoliosis warrior - I’m going to write it finally” and have yet to do so…

I get it. TRUST ME, do I ever get it. Having written the first ever behind-the-scenes scoliosis book with info, insight, plain-language, and (yes) fun… I know the amount of time and effort that goes into it. It most certainly is a commitment that costs money. All of those add up to quite a hurdle to writing and publishing.

But maybe WE don’t have to write a bunch of books about scoliosis (although you know I will most certainly support your endeavor should you choose to do this!). Maybe non-scoli authors should write relatable characters facing invisible dynamic disabilities into their books too. Main character energy is a crowd fave, but supporting characters too!

Representation matters. We all know that now and request it constantly. In recognition of this, I wanted to create a list of books that support people with scoliosis by representing invisible, dynamic, and spine conditions. These stories of overcoming steep medical hurdles and emotional hurdles AND tackling day-to-day challenges, PLUS whatever plot the characters have to navigate in a novel EQUAL an additional type of support. One where we can escape our world to find a parallel universe where the characters are relatable from the medical lens as well.

Much like our now-famous Scoliosis Watch List for movies, together we will compile list of books in The Scoliosis Book Club. Any books that showcase the trials and triumphs of living with a chronic, invisible, dynamic, spinal condition earn a place in this club.
